Org. Setting and Reporting:

The incumbent will be based in Bissau, at the HQ of the United Nations Integrated Peacebuilding Office in Guinea-Bissau and will be working under the direct supervision of Chief Public Information Officer.

Responsibilities:

  • Assists in the development of UNIOGBIS and UNCT/UNCG website using interfaces, templates and other standard graphic and web design software;
  • In consultation with source/section/agency, review content to be posted and edits the documents and graphic material as required;
  • Manage the website on a daily basis – technical support, content and information uploads;
  • Monitor users traffic on website and intranet and take necessary actions to increase visibility and website referencing, contributing to peace and stability in the country and the sub region – The number of visitors on the website and the intranet and the flow of data contribution will constitute performance indicators as well as timely updates and increased traffic;
  • Serves as the focal point for the planning, specification, design and development of the website, including implementation and support of design/style sheets, as well as monitoring of computer application systems development projects, involving liaison on web site related issues;
  • Liaises with all UNCT/UNCG AFPs as required to define and specify requirements;
  • Train UNCT/UNCG (AFPs) staff in the use and upload of information onto the respective web pages;
  • Provides guidance and support to new/junior staff in the maintenance of the sub-sites and in the use of interfaces, templates and other tools developed for posting information on the site;
  • Repares technical and user documentation as well as training materials for the application;
  • Prepares graphics for web and newsletters;
  • Manages the social media channels of UNIOGBIS/UNCT, posting regularly;
  • Provides guidance to, and may supervise, more junior staff;
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements

Education:

University Degree in journalism, social communication or Information Technology. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Formal training in web-administration or graphic design is required.

Experience:

At least 5 years of web administration experience in the field of Public Information, content management or graphic design is required. A minimum of three years’ experience with web design using related software is highly desirable. The knowledge of the practices and procedures of UN organizations is an advantage.

Excellent computer and software skills, good knowledge of editing software such as Vegas 13, Photoshop or any new appropriate software is required. Familiarity with and knowledge of HTML editors and graphics software for the Internet is required. Web-design with good knowledge of design and programming languages, XHTML, java scripts, DHTML and Flash, is required. Excellent knowledge of Internet user essentials (e.g. browsing, e-mails, searching, etc.), as well as of the operating systems Windows Server is required.

Language:

French and English are working languages of the UN Secretariat, for this position a good working level of English (both oral and written), Portuguese (both oral and written) and Creole (oral) is required.

Preference will be given to equally qualified women candidates.
