Applications received after the deadline will not\nthe accepted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Description of main\nduties and responsibilities:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This\nposition is located within the Human Rights Section of UNIOGBIS. The Associate\nHuman Rights Officer reports to the head of the Capacity Building and Technical\nCooperation Unit. Under the overall authority of the Chief Human Rights Officer,\nthe Associate Human Rights Officer will be responsible for the following\nduties:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Assists in supporting human rights\ncapacity building efforts for civil society and state authorities, including\nfor aligning legislative and rule of law reforms with international human\nrights norms and for the State to meet international human rights law\nobligations and to report to human rights mechanisms and bodies; <\/li><li>Supports national authorities in their\nimplementation of recommendations by UN Treaty Bodies, Special Procedures and\nother mechanisms of the UN Human Rights Council;<\/li><li>Support national authorities in efforts\nto strengthen rule of law and accountability for human rights violations and to\nenhance equality and counter discrimination; <\/li><li>Participates in the design, delivery and\nevaluation of human rights training programmes for national officials, civil\nsociety representatives, human rights non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and\nother national stakeholders in order to build national capacities;<\/li><li>Regularly\nreport on outcomes, achievements and constraints in implementing the Human\nRights Section\u2019s work plan in the context of the UNIOGBIS mandate, including\nvia weekly, monthly and other reports;<\/li><li>Assist in the\nelaboration of progress reports on the implementation of agreed Results-Based-Budgeting\n(RBB) and OHCHR Expected Accomplishments for Guinea Bissau;<\/li><li>Assist in the\nformulation, planning and implementation of activities in celebration of\nvarious UN days and in the overall implementation of the strategic and thematic\npriorities of the section;<\/li><li>Contributes to the integration of gender\nperspectives\/considerations and specific women\/girls\u2019 rights issues in all\nactivities and to the equal participation of women and men in all areas of\nwork;<\/li><li>Performs other duties, as required,\nincluding on human rights monitoring, protection and reporting.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Competencies:<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Professionalism<\/strong>: Strong analytical\nskills and ability to conduct comprehensive political research on range of\nissues, including those of a unique and\/or complex nature. A\nfirst-level university degree in combination with two additional years of\nqualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university\ndegree.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Experience:<\/strong>&nbsp; &nbsp;A\nminimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in human rights or\na closely related field is required. Experience working with international\nhuman rights standards, instruments and mechanisms is required. Previous\nexperience in human rights monitoring and reporting and on\/or in building\ncapacity for the promotion and protection of human rights is desirable. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Language:<\/strong> English and French are the working languages\nof the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in English or French (both oral and\nwritten) is required. Knowledge of Portuguese and Creole is also required. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<table class=\"wp-block-table\"><tbody><tr><td>\n  <strong>Preference\n  will be given to equally qualified women candidates.
