Basic Job Description:
This position is in the Finance and Budget Section under Mission Support Department of United Nations Integrated Peace-Building Office in Guinea-Bissau (UNIOGBIS). The Finance Assistants will report to the Chief of Unit.
Description of Main Duties:
Under the supervision of the Chief of Unit, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:
- Assists in processing payments due by the Organization and settlement of staff members entitlements and claims.
- Processes payment requests relating to purchase of goods and services after ensuring compliance with all instructions, and proper documentation and certification.
- Review supporting documents of Fund Commitments received from other offices for approval by the Finance Officer and process related payments.
- Process replenishment of petty cashes and imprest after ensuring compliance with all instructions, and proper documentation and certification.
- Assists in reconciling payments to vendors and clear advances given to substantive offices.
- Processes travel claims in conformity with travel authorization, ensuring compliance with relevant rules and.
- Assist in bank reconciliation in coordination with RSCE and processes applied deposits and refers unidentified cases to the supervisor for advice.
- Assist in cashier functions to finalize payments and coordinate with bank signatories and local banks.
- Files and archives documentation as required. Enters, maintains and certifies administrative data and records for time and attendance, performance appraisal, etc. in UMOJA;

Qualifications and Requirements:
Education: High school diploma or its equivalent technical or commercial school is required. Certificate/coursework/training in accounting, finance or directly related fields is highly desirable.
Work Experience: At least three (3) years of experience in finance, accounting, treasury or related area, of which preferably two (2) years within the United Nations common system. Experience in processing, verifying or reconciling accounts related to salary and payroll entitlements within the United Nations system is desirable. Experience with payroll or finance modules of ERP systems, such as IMIS or Umoja (SAP) is also desirable.
